Christopher von Haunalter – West Sacramento

I once lived in the Seabright neighborhood for over a year, just over the old bridge not far from the Boardwalk; often I heard the thrilled, happy sounds of amusement park riders screaming from the Giant Dipper and other rides. The coastal setting, the historic roller coaster construction set before the beautiful Monterey Bay was/is a wonderful snapshot of California Americana, where people of all ages enjoy the seaside atmosphere and timeless entertainment of the classic place. I’d been before as a youth from the Bay and was always intrigued by the kinda wild, magical area. So I was inspired to create a work that would preserve this unique space in time; I sat on a lil hill spot vantage above the San Lorenzo River and used colored pencils and a bit of acrylic paint to try to capture the contrasted combo of colorful structures and serene nature. The fun vibes and innocent excitement emanating from the area was also a catalyst for my creation… 22.5”x10.5”
