When my dad brings me and my family to the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, he tells us about his stories as both as customer and an employee of the Boardwalk when he was a teenager, and he always asserts that the Boardwalk looks exactly as he remembers it! Imagining a few (or many!) generations before my dad’s time, I figured that an image of the Dipper taken from the black and white era would look the same 100 years later–only now in color. My chalk art reflects the Giant Dipper’s never changing thrill being pictured as both a black and white image and in color. I did my art in chalk to help blend the transition from black and white to color.
